- Do you want a tool you can use right away that powerfully,
effectively, and safely facilitates the depth of self-awareness?
- Do you want to simply, consistently, and easily access deep-seated
metaphors?
- Do you want a completely non-directive tool that is free of
assumptions?
- Do you want to facilitate organic transformation while connecting
naturally at a heart level?
In this presentation, you
will learn and be able to use 4 Clean Language questions
that:
- Focus attention solely on your client’s internal perceptual
relationships and metaphoric patterns of thinking.
- Deepen understanding and open the doorway to mindful awareness
without having to explore emotional issues.
- Facilitate recognition of how language influences imagery and frames
the inner world.
- Transforms awareness so it naturally and organically designs
action.
From my professional perspective,
as a practicing clinical psychologist and coach since 1973, Clean
Language and its derivative tools are unsurpassed in their power. Clean
Language creates an immediate deepening of self-awareness with amazing
practical applications.
The idea behind Clean Language, developed
by David Grove (1950-2008), is to remove the therapist/coach’s
influence and biases as much as possible from the process. This is the
basis of the term “clean.” It refers to a way of working that uses
the client/patient/coachee’s own words as the basis for further
questioning.
Why is Clean Language so effective?
With none
of your metaphors, assumptions, or points-of-view infused into the
conversation, Clean Language gives your clients full freedom to use
their own words as the basis of healing and change. This means that
rather than working with your interpretations of their metaphors, your
clients only relate to and utilize their own perceptions. After all, it
is only the client’s metaphors that count.
One of my clients
said, “This was, by far, the best therapeutic experience I’ve ever
had. What would normally have taken two-years of digging around in my
subconscious in traditional therapy, we accomplished in just 15-minutes!
It cuts through the B.S. very quickly.”
Clean Language improves
the quality and clarity of communication and understanding in a
respectful and insightful way without the risk of judgments or
interpretations. Clean Language is a tool that anyone can safely
use.
Objectives:
- You will be able to identify four powerful Clean Language
questions.
- You will learn how and when to use Clean Language to deepen your
client’s understanding.
- You will be able to apply Clean Language to focus your client’s
goals and identify what your client wants to have happen in their
session.
- You will understand and be able to identify the difference between
Clean Language and non-Clean Language.

Professional Workshop for Licensed Professionals and Coaches
Conversational Hypnosis: Clean Language to Induce and Deepen Mindfulness in Self and Interpersonal Communications.
Taught by: Eleanor Haspel-Portner, Ph.D.
When: December 4, 2011:
Hours: 9:30 am to 5:30 pm (lunch is a working lunch; registration is at 9:30-9:45, adjourn 5:15-5:30)
Clean Language (CL) is a conversational hypnotic tool that utilizes the client’s own language and metaphors to bring about and deepen a trance state. CL draws extensively on the work of David Grove and Milton Erickson. Inner work is most effective when the client is facilitated in creatively developing and utilizing their own imagery for transformation (Erickson, Hypnotic Realities). Bypassing conscious resistance, using the client’s own words, facilitates access to the internal unconscious metaphors with which the client can then interact. Using CL, clients identify their inner resources and desired outcomes transforming them as they work. This deepening inner awareness facilitates inner change, changing the client’s inner landscape and how it manifests in the world. CL emphasizes the fundamental intelligence and purposive nature of internal imagery and functioning and engages the client in a mindful inner goal-directed process from which new meanings and imagery emerge.
Objectives:
-
Participants will be able to identify the three primary CL questions to deepen metaphor and induce trance.
-
Participants will be able to identify how to use CL questions to facilitate their client’s focus from a problem, to a remedy, to a solution while in trance.
-
Participants will be able to apply CL in assessing their client’s goals and identifying what the client wants to have happen in their session.
-
Participants will understand and be able to identify the difference between CL and non-CL.
